Boxing school "La Cubierta"«

Award-winning project at the 9th Vallès Architecture Exhibition, organised by the Official College of Architects of Catalonia. This is a project to restore an old abandoned swimming pool, transformed into a boxing school. The proposal stems from the need to provide minimal spatial conditions for an activity in high demand in the municipality where it is located, and to achieve this it does so through the reinterpretation of a pre-existing, disused space. As defined by the jury of the 9th Vallès Architecture Show, ‘exemplifies how a minimal architectural intervention, based on an appropriate reading of the available space, can profoundly transform a place, completely changing its configuration and perception, by taking advantage of all the architectural features offered by its previous use and applying them to its final purpose.’ It is, therefore, a re-reading of the heritage of a peripheral, post-industrial setting and the collective, participatory design and execution of the work, re-evaluating the use-value of an abandoned space. In this sense, the project is based on the desire to reconfigure the space in an anti-nostalgic way compositionally, yet respectfully towards the essence of the place, which is defined by the social interactions that took place during its first life and which continue to occur today following its transformation.
