Outstanding work of the 9th Vallès Architecture Exhibition organized by the Official Association of Architects of Catalonia. It is a project to recover an old abandoned swimming pool transformed into a boxing school. The proposal is based on the need to provide minimal spatial conditions for an activity with a lot of demand in the municipality where it is located and to achieve this it does so through the reinterpretation of a pre-existing space in disuse. As defined by the jury of the 9th Vallès Architecture Exhibition, “it demonstrates in an exceptional way how a minimal architectural intervention, based on the appropriate reading of the available space, can transform a place in a profound way, completely changing its configuration and perception, based on taking advantage of all the architectural characteristics that a previous use offered and applying them to the final destination.” It is therefore about the re-reading of the heritage of a post-industrial peripheral scenario and the design and execution of work in a collective and participatory manner, rethinking the use value of an abandoned space. In this sense, the project starts from the desire to reconfigure the space in an anti-nostalgic way at a compositional level but respectful of the essence of the place, which is defined by the social interactions that occurred there during its first life and that continue to occur today after its transformation.
